Novels.lk Website

Project Overview

The Novels.lk website was designed and developed by Isura Wickramarachchi in 2014 as a dynamic online literary portal dedicated to promoting Sinhala literature and the Sri Lankan publishing industry. Built using PHP/MySQL, the platform provided readers with a central hub where they could discover newly released novels, explore different literary genres, learn about authors and publishers, and stay informed about developments in the local book industry.

The website brought together books, authors, publishers, educational resources, literary articles, videos, and industry news into a single searchable platform. It aimed to strengthen the online presence of Sinhala literature while making books more accessible to readers through an organised digital catalogue.

Significance

The Novels.lk project demonstrates Isura Wickramarachchi's ability to develop specialised content portals that support Sri Lanka's literary and publishing community. Rather than serving as a simple promotional website, the platform functioned as a comprehensive digital library and information portal where readers could discover books, follow literary news, explore authors, and learn about publishers and bookshops across the country.

The website successfully integrated multiple types of literary content—including novels, educational books, author interviews, videos, publisher information, book news, and genre-based browsing—within a single database-driven platform. Its structured categorisation and searchable content made it easier for readers to explore Sinhala literature while providing publishers and authors with greater online visibility.

This project highlights Isura Wickramarachchi's expertise in designing large-scale PHP/MySQL content management systems capable of organising extensive collections of information in an intuitive and visually engaging manner. By creating a dedicated online platform for Sri Lankan literature, Novels.lk contributed to the digital promotion of books, authors, and reading culture, supporting the continued growth and accessibility of Sinhala literary content in the digital era.
