Mage Charikawa Stage Design

Project: Mage Charikawa – The Journey
Author: Dr. Nalaka Godahewa
Category: Event Stage & Visual Design
Venue: Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Mandiraya, Colombo
Design: Isura Wickramarachchi
For the launch of Dr. Nalaka Godahewa's “Mage Charikawa – The Journey,” I designed the main stage and visual environment for the event held at Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Mandiraya in Colombo.
The original book cover followed a very minimal approach, using white typography on a purple background. Rather than simply enlarging the original cover artwork for the event, I developed a separate visual concept specifically suited to the scale, presentation requirements and atmosphere of the book launch.
The stage composition brought together the main LED screen, vertical display panels, podium graphics and photographic presentation as a coordinated visual environment. Strong red, orange, yellow and dark tones were used to establish a distinctive stage presence and ensure that the visual presentation remained effective throughout the auditorium.
Photographic elements were incorporated into the stage design to support the central idea of “The Journey,” presenting different moments as part of a broader visual narrative surrounding the publication.
This project demonstrates my experience in stage design, event visual communication, large-format graphics and event branding, particularly in transforming the concept behind a publication into a complete visual environment for a major public event.
From now on, for your portfolio entries I’ll keep the Project / Author or Client / Category / Venue or Location / Year / Design information in both Sinhala and English versions whenever those details are available.
