Social Media Workshop – Kolonnawa Electorate
THE STORY

Date: 22 September 2019
Location: Kolonnawa Electorate, Sri Lanka

As part of the preparations for the 2019 Sri Lankan Presidential Election, a Social Media Workshop was conducted for digital campaign volunteers and social media activists representing the Kolonnawa Electorate at Ajith Subasinghe's Office.

The workshop focused on the responsible use of social media, the dissemination of accurate information, digital content creation, campaign planning, volunteer coordination, and building effective public engagement through online platforms.

The keynote session was delivered by Isura Wickramarachchi, who shared practical insights gained through his experience in managing political digital campaigns. The presentation covered digital campaign strategy, volunteer mobilisation, content development, audience engagement, and best practices for operating coordinated and responsible social media networks.

The programme attracted a large group of social media activists representing different communities and age groups. Through presentations, discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and practical examples, participants gained valuable knowledge and skills that could be applied throughout the election campaign.

The workshop formed part of a broader series of regional training programmes designed to strengthen local digital campaign teams and build a more organised, informed, and effective network of social media activists during the 2019 presidential election.

The programme was attended by Mr. Ajith Subasinghe, Organiser of the Kolonnawa Electorate, and Attorney-at-Law Mr. Premanath Dolawatta, who shared their insights and encouraged participants to strengthen their contribution to the campaign through coordinated and responsible digital engagement.
