Hadawathe Sihinaya – Vitharandeniya Village School

The Project’s 13th Computer for a Rural School in Hambantota
Date: 24 September 2020
School: Vitharandeniya Village School
District: Hambantota
Project: Hadawathe Sihinaya – Computer Project
Organised by: Isura Wickramarachchi Foundation
Milestone: 13th computer donated through the project
The “Hadawathe Sihinaya” Computer Project was created to identify schools in different parts of Sri Lanka with little or no access to computer facilities and provide their children with an opportunity to experience technology as part of their education.
As another step in this initiative, on 24 September 2020, a computer was donated to Vitharandeniya Village School in the Hambantota District. It marked the 13th computer provided through the Hadawathe Sihinaya project.
The computer was formally handed over to the school and set up for use. Reaching smaller rural schools such as this was an important part of the initiative, reflecting the belief that children should have opportunities to experience computer technology regardless of where their school is located.
The photographs also preserve the modest setting of the school and the environment in which the donation took place. For me, this therefore represents more than another computer donation. It was another step in taking Hadawathe Sihinaya beyond a single locality and reaching children in schools across different parts of Sri Lanka.
My wish recorded at the time was simple:
“May the children of our country see the future.”
