Distribution of Dry Food Rations to Flood-Affected Residents in Walpita - 2017

Date: May 28, 2017
Location: Walpita, Homagama, Sri Lanka
Project: Flood Disaster Relief
Sponsored by: Dinesh Gunawardena Category: Disaster Relief and Community Service
In May 2017, heavy rainfall and severe flooding affected many communities across Sri Lanka, including Walpita, the area where I lived. Several local families experienced difficulties as flooding disrupted their daily lives and access to essential supplies.
On May 28, 2017, I participated in distributing dry food rations to flood-affected residents of Walpita, with the generous sponsorship of Dinesh Gunawardena.
The initiative focused on providing immediate food assistance to families facing hardship during the floods. The photograph from the occasion documents part of the relief distribution carried out during the evening.
As someone actively involved in community service, I considered supporting people in my own neighbourhood during emergencies an important personal responsibility. Being able to contribute directly to the welfare of families affected by the floods was particularly meaningful to me.
This initiative remains part of my personal archive of community service and disaster relief activities, reflecting my continuing commitment to assisting local communities during times of difficulty.
