Date: 17 January 2022
Location: Ihala Diggala School, Sri Lanka
Main Project: Hadawathinma Daruwanta - Ihala Diggala School Development Project
Stage: School observation visit and interaction with children
Project Relationship: A follow-up visit associated with the main school development initiative
Returning to Meet the Children
On 17 January 2022, I visited Ihala Diggala School to observe the school environment and spend time with the children.
Ihala Diggala School holds a special place among the educational and community development activities associated with our Hadawathinma Daruwanta initiative.
I have always believed that the value of a school development project extends beyond the buildings and physical facilities provided.
Its greater significance lies in the opportunities those facilities create for the children who use them.
Observing the School Environment
During the visit, I had an opportunity to see the school building and its surrounding environment.
The photographs show a building surrounded by greenery, with landscaped areas and a well-maintained outdoor setting.
The building also displays references to "Hadawathe Sihinaya" and "Palamu Mavilla", reminders of the identity and history associated with the school development effort.
Seeing the school environment again was a meaningful part of the visit.
A Memorable Time with the Children
The most enjoyable part of the day was spending time with the children.
They gathered around me for photographs, smiling, laughing and enthusiastically joining the group pictures.
These spontaneous moments became some of the most memorable experiences of the visit.
For me, community service has never been only about completing a physical project. It is also about the relationships formed with the people who benefit from those efforts.
A Connection Beyond the Development Project
I believe it is important to revisit places where we have contributed to community development whenever possible.
Such visits help maintain relationships and provide an opportunity to observe how the environment continues to serve its community.
My visit to Ihala Diggala School on 17 January 2022 was one such occasion.
Looking back at these photographs, what stands out most is not simply the school building, but the children gathered around me with their cheerful expressions.
The true value of what we build is found in the opportunities it creates for future generations. This visit to Ihala Diggala School remains a memorable part of my journey in community service.
