Sonnac Lanka (Pvt) Ltd
Project Overview
The Sonnac Lanka Enterprises website was designed and developed in 2006 by Isura Wickramarachchi as a dynamic PHP/MySQL vehicle management system for one of Sri Lanka's vehicle importers specializing in Japanese reconditioned vehicles.
The website was built to function as a complete online showroom where customers could browse newly imported vehicles, search by multiple criteria, and obtain detailed specifications before visiting the dealership. During the mid-2000s, when most Sri Lankan vehicle dealers still relied on newspaper advertisements and static websites, Sonnac Lanka introduced a searchable online inventory that significantly improved the customer buying experience.
The project combined corporate branding with a fully database-driven vehicle catalogue, allowing the company to update vehicle stock, publish news, and manage inventory through an administration system. The company continues to operate in Sri Lanka's vehicle industry today under the Sonnac Lanka Enterprises name.
Design & Structure
The website features a clean automotive-themed interface centred around the company's vehicle inventory. The homepage immediately establishes the business identity through a large header featuring a premium sedan and the company branding, followed by a navigation menu that directs visitors to the different vehicle categories.
The central area of the homepage functions as the vehicle showroom, displaying the latest imported vehicles together with stock numbers, specifications, availability status, and thumbnail photographs. Each vehicle listing presents key information including engine capacity, transmission, mileage, optional equipment, and condition, allowing buyers to compare multiple vehicles quickly.
A dedicated sidebar contains an advanced vehicle search engine, enabling visitors to search by:
- Vehicle Type
- Brand
- Model
- Condition
Below the search module, a company news section keeps customers informed about newly available vehicles and company updates.
The homepage also showcases major automotive manufacturers—including Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Isuzu, Honda, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz—reinforcing the company's broad range of imported vehicles.
The interface combines pink, sky blue, grey, and white, creating a distinctive automotive identity that stands out from the darker dealership websites commonly seen during the period.
Unique Design Concept
One of the website's strongest innovations was its combination of a vehicle database with an intuitive search interface, giving customers the ability to browse inventory much like today's online automotive marketplaces.
Instead of publishing only static vehicle photographs, the homepage became a live inventory display that changed whenever new vehicles were added through the administration system.

Significance
The Sonnac Lanka Enterprises project represents one of Isura Wickramarachchi's early automotive e-commerce and inventory management systems, demonstrating how database-driven web applications could transform traditional vehicle sales. Instead of relying solely on printed advertisements or manually updated pages, the website enabled the dealership to maintain a live online showroom that customers could search from anywhere.
The project also reflects Isura's approach to developing industry-specific web applications rather than simple brochure websites. By integrating inventory management, advanced search capabilities, structured vehicle specifications, and company news into a single PHP/MySQL platform, the website offered functionality that anticipated many features now considered standard in modern automotive marketplaces.
Through its clean automotive branding, efficient information architecture, and powerful search functionality, the Sonnac Lanka website provided customers with a faster and more transparent way to find suitable vehicles while giving the dealership an efficient platform for managing its inventory. More than two decades later, the project remains an excellent example of early automotive web application development and demonstrates how custom-built database systems could create real business value long before today's online vehicle marketplaces became common. The company continues to operate in Sri Lanka's automotive sector, reflecting the enduring nature of the business the website was built to support.
