Sinhala Cinema Database 2026 - Redesign
Project Overview
The Films.lk website was redesigned and developed by Isura Wickramarachchi in 2026, representing the fifth generation of Sri Lanka's largest and most comprehensive Sinhala cinema database. Since its original launch in 2009, the platform has undergone continuous evolution through major redesigns in 2011, 2017, 2020, and now 2026, reflecting nearly two decades of ongoing development and innovation.
The 2026 version introduces a completely modern user experience inspired by contemporary streaming and entertainment platforms. The redesigned homepage focuses on cinematic presentation, large visual content, intelligent categorisation, improved navigation, and significantly faster database access. The system has been rebuilt to support a continuously expanding archive while providing a seamless experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Significance
The 2026 redesign of Films.lk represents the culmination of more than 17 years of continuous development by Isura Wickramarachchi. Beginning with the original website in 2009, followed by major redesigns in 2011, 2017, and 2020, the fifth-generation platform transforms Films.lk into a modern digital ecosystem dedicated to preserving, documenting, and promoting Sinhala cinema.
Beyond being a cinema database, Films.lk has evolved into Sri Lanka's official online reference for Sinhala cinema. It is extensively used by university students, academic researchers, film historians, journalists, media organisations, and individuals studying Sri Lankan cinema as a trusted source of verified information. The platform has become an important academic and research resource, contributing to the preservation of the nation's cinematic heritage.
The website is also recognised by the film industry itself. Artists use their personal profile pages on Films.lk as their official online profiles, while film producers and production companies regularly direct audiences to Films.lk for official film information, cast details, release dates, and promotional material. In addition, the website has become a frequently cited reference source in Wikidata and other knowledge repositories, demonstrating the credibility and reliability of its information within the global digital knowledge ecosystem.
With more than 14,500 artist profiles, 2,500 Sinhala film records, and over 20,000 photographs, Films.lk stands today as the largest and most authoritative digital archive of Sinhala cinema ever created. Its evolution across five major generations—2009, 2011, 2017, 2020, and 2026—reflects Isura Wickramarachchi's long-term vision of combining technology with cultural preservation. What began as an award-winning entertainment website has grown into an internationally recognised digital heritage platform that continues to safeguard and promote the rich history of Sri Lankan cinema for future generations.
