Films.lk Mobile App - Bringing Sinhala Cinema to Your Fingertips

Project: Films.lk Android Mobile Application Creator and Developer: Isura Wickramarachchi Platform: Android Website: www.films.lk

The Films.lk Mobile App is an extension of Films.lk, the Sinhala cinema information platform I established in 2009. It was developed to make Sri Lankan film history, artist profiles, and cinema-related information more accessible through mobile technology.

The application provides access to a growing collection of Sinhala film records, including information about actors, actresses, directors, producers, awards, and upcoming releases. It connects users with the broader Films.lk cinema database, which serves as a digital reference for Sri Lankan cinema.

One of the application's important features is its notification system. Using Firebase Cloud Messaging, it can deliver cinema-related updates to Android devices. Notifications can direct users to specific film, artist, or award pages, while a dedicated Notification Center allows them to review previously received updates.

The application has been developed with a mobile-friendly interface, searchable content, structured navigation, and integration with the Films.lk website and its database.

For me, the Films.lk Mobile App represents another stage in a long-term personal commitment to documenting and preserving the history of Sri Lankan cinema. By combining digital archiving with modern mobile technology, I hope to make our cinematic heritage more accessible to researchers, film enthusiasts, students, and future generations.

Project significance: A continuation of the Films.lk digital cinema archive, extending its accessibility from the web to Android mobile devices.
