“Janabalaya Colombata” – Participating as an Active Member

Date: 5 September 2018
Location: Lipton Circus and Colombo

On 5 September 2018, I participated in the “Janabalaya Colombata” (People’s Power to Colombo) protest together with members of my team. We took part as active members and participants in the demonstration, rather than as organizers of the event. Contemporary reports identify the event as a protest organized by the Joint Opposition, with participants gathering in different parts of Colombo.

Our involvement was as active participants in the political activities of that period, joining the procession around Lipton Circus together with the other participants.

The photographs capture several moments from my participation that day, including occasions when I was moving with the procession and using a portable loudspeaker. Mahinda Rajapaksa also participated in the protest, according to contemporary reporting of the event.

For my personal archive, these photographs preserve an important memory from my political activities in 2018—a day when members of my team and I joined the Janabalaya procession as active participants, alongside the many others who took part.
