Shaolin Monastery is a historic Buddhist temple located at the foot of Mount Song in Henan Province, China. Founded in 495 AD during the Northern Wei Dynasty, it is one of the most famous Zen Buddhist monasteries in the world and is considered the birthplace of Shaolin Kung Fu (martial arts).

The monastery became renowned for combining Chan (Zen) Buddhism, meditation, and martial arts training. According to tradition, the Indian monk Bodhidharma introduced meditation practices at Shaolin in the 6th century, which later influenced the development of Shaolin martial arts.

Today, Shaolin Monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as part of the Historic Monuments of Dengfeng) and remains an important center for Buddhist culture, martial arts, Chinese philosophy, and tourism. It is famous for its disciplined warrior monks, traditional Kung Fu performances, and ancient architectural treasures.
