FCCISL - BPI Project Website
ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Overview

The Business for Peace Initiative (BPI) website was designed and developed by Isura Wickramarachchi in 2007 for the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL). The project was created to support one of FCCISL's flagship post-conflict economic development programmes, aimed at rebuilding livelihoods and strengthening business opportunities in the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka.

Built on a dynamic PHP/MySQL platform, the website served as a central information hub where entrepreneurs, development partners, government agencies, and regional chambers could access project updates, market information, resource profiles, publications, and business development activities.

Design & Structure

The website adopted a professional corporate design using shades of blue and green, representing growth, peace, and economic development. A large visual banner highlighted the project's focus on community empowerment and national reconciliation through business development.

The homepage was carefully organised into multiple information panels, allowing visitors to quickly access project news, regional maps, achievements, press releases, activity updates, and programme information. The clean grid layout enabled a large amount of information to be presented without overwhelming the user, making navigation straightforward for government officials, development organisations, and business communities.

Unique Design Concept

The website was designed as a comprehensive project management and information portal rather than a simple corporate website. It brought together multiple components of the Business for Peace Initiative into a single online platform, allowing stakeholders to monitor project progress, access regional business information, and stay informed about ongoing activities.

Special emphasis was placed on presenting the North and East Resource Profiles, Market Linkages, Market Statistics, and Image Archive, giving investors and entrepreneurs valuable information about business opportunities in the target regions. The portal also included a Press Room, Activity Calendar, Bulletin Board, and Call for Support section, encouraging collaboration between local businesses and international development partners.
