On 22 April 2022, a community service programme was carried out at Liyankanda Junior School in Wathurawa, Kalawana, to donate school bags and educational supplies to students. The initiative aimed to support the educational needs of children attending a rural school and remains a meaningful occasion within my wider involvement in social and community service activities.

In some rural areas of Sri Lanka, obtaining basic educational supplies can be a challenge for schoolchildren and their families. Economic difficulties, transportation limitations, and differences in access to resources can affect children's everyday school experiences. Providing essential educational materials is one practical way of helping students continue their studies with greater confidence and convenience.

During this programme, school bags and educational supplies were donated to students of Liyankanda Junior School. The initiative focused on addressing practical educational needs while encouraging children to remain motivated in their learning activities.

The school is situated in a scenic rural environment surrounded by greenery and mountainous landscapes. The natural surroundings visible in the photographs reflect the character of the area and provide a memorable setting for the programme.

Several photographs were taken during the visit, documenting students inside their classrooms and a group of children gathered in the school grounds wearing their newly received school bags. One particularly memorable photograph shows the students standing together with their arms around one another's shoulders, reflecting a sense of friendship and togetherness.

The programme took place in April 2022, during a period when Sri Lanka was experiencing a severe economic crisis. In such circumstances, assistance with basic educational materials could help ease some of the financial pressures faced by families while supporting children's continued participation in school.

Education is one of the most important foundations for a child's future. Although donating a school bag or a collection of educational supplies may appear to be a relatively small contribution, such assistance can make a practical difference in a student's daily life.

Since becoming involved in social and community service activities in 2015, I have placed particular importance on educational initiatives. Supporting schools, improving learning facilities, providing educational resources, and encouraging opportunities for children have been recurring areas of interest throughout my community service activities.

The donation programme at Liyankanda Junior School formed part of this broader commitment to education and child welfare. Supporting children in rural communities is especially meaningful because access to educational resources and facilities can vary significantly between different regions.

Initiatives of this nature also highlight the importance of community participation in education. While schools and teachers provide the foundation for learning, contributions from individuals, volunteers, and community organisations can help address practical needs that may otherwise remain unmet.

The photographs preserved from this visit provide a visual record of the students, classrooms, school environment, and donated school bags. They also serve as part of my personal documentation of social and community activities carried out over the years.

The school bag and educational supplies donation programme held at Liyankanda Junior School, Wathurawa, Kalawana, on 22 April 2022 remains part of my personal timeline as a meaningful contribution towards supporting the education and well-being of children in a rural Sri Lankan community.
