Helping Hand Org website
Project Overview
HelpingHands.org was designed and developed by Isura Wickramarachchi in 2007 for a UK-based charitable organisation dedicated to supporting disadvantaged communities through humanitarian projects and volunteer initiatives. The website was created to communicate the organisation's mission, introduce its ongoing projects, encourage public participation, and attract volunteers and donors.
The website served as the organisation's primary online presence, providing visitors with information about its vision, charitable activities, and opportunities to become involved in making a positive social impact.
Design & Structure
The design reflected the values of hope, compassion, and community, using a bright and welcoming colour palette of orange, blue, white, and soft pink. Large hand illustrations and people-centred photography reinforced the organisation's humanitarian focus while creating an approachable and friendly visual identity.
The homepage was structured to immediately communicate the charity's mission through prominent Vision & Mission sections, supported by photographs representing care, teamwork, and community development. Navigation was organised into clearly defined sections, allowing visitors to easily explore the organisation's projects, founder's message, news, and opportunities to participate.
The clean layout ensured that important information remained easy to read while maintaining a warm and inspiring visual presentation.
Unique Design Concept
The website was designed around the concept of "People Helping People."
Rather than using a corporate appearance, the interface focused on emotional storytelling through carefully selected imagery and warm colours. The visual identity highlighted the human side of the organisation, encouraging visitors to connect with its mission and become actively involved.
Special attention was given to creating clear pathways for visitors to learn about the organisation, support its projects, volunteer, and stay informed through the News & Events section, making the website an effective communication and awareness platform.
