Project Overview

SuperOnSriLanka was designed and developed by Isura Wickramarachchi in 2007 as a comprehensive tourism information portal dedicated to promoting Sri Lanka as an international travel destination. Built using PHP/MySQL, the website combined travel information, accommodation listings, tour packages, travel resources, weather updates, classifieds, and tourism-related services into a single online platform.

The portal was designed to serve international travellers by providing detailed destination information while also acting as a marketing platform for hotels, tour operators, travel partners, and tourism service providers.

Design & Structure

The website adopted a magazine-style portal layout, allowing a large amount of travel information to be organised without sacrificing usability. A colourful interface using orange, green, blue, and white reflected the tropical identity of Sri Lanka while maintaining a vibrant and welcoming appearance.

The homepage centred around an illustrated map of Sri Lanka, immediately introducing visitors to the country's geography. Large photographic banners showcased Sri Lanka's landscapes and cultural heritage, while multiple side panels provided quick access to weather forecasts, travel news, exchange rates, tourism links, hotel information, classified advertisements, and special travel offers.

The structured navigation made it easy for visitors to browse hundreds of travel-related pages while keeping frequently accessed information always visible.

Unique Design Concept

The website was designed as an all-in-one travel information hub, bringing together every resource a visitor might need before and during a trip to Sri Lanka.

Rather than focusing solely on tour packages, the portal integrated destination guides, travel planning tools, accommodation, transportation, government information, airlines, embassies, weather forecasts, exchange rates, travel tips, and classified advertisements into one dynamic platform. Visitors could also explore specialised holiday categories such as honeymoon tours, long-stay holidays, budget tours, Ayurveda holidays, and customised itineraries.

This comprehensive approach transformed the website from a standard tourism website into a complete travel resource for international visitors.
