Star Action Photos — Web Project

Project Overview

Star Action Photos was designed and developed by Isura Wickramarachchi in 2008 as a professional online sports photography platform. Built using PHP/MySQL, the website enabled photographers to upload, organise, and sell high-quality action photographs taken during swimming competitions and sporting events.

The platform was designed to streamline the entire workflow—from uploading event photographs to allowing parents, athletes, and sports clubs to search, preview, and purchase their favourite images online.

Design & Structure

The website adopted a modern dark-themed design that placed the emphasis entirely on photography. A black background with metallic highlights created a premium visual experience, allowing colourful sports images to stand out.

The homepage featured an organised dashboard containing event search tools, featured galleries, latest competitions, recent photo collections, and shopping cart information. A dynamic thumbnail gallery displayed recently uploaded photographs, giving visitors immediate access to new content while maintaining a clean and professional appearance.

The navigation was designed using colourful icon-based menu buttons, creating a distinctive interface while keeping every major function within easy reach.

Unique Design Concept

The website was designed as a complete online sports photography sales platform, combining image management with e-commerce functionality.

Instead of simply displaying photographs, the system organised images by sporting event, venue, and competition, making it easy for visitors to locate specific athletes or events. Customers could browse galleries, preview photographs, add selected images to their shopping cart, and complete purchases online.

The search functionality significantly reduced the time required to locate photographs from large sporting events, making the platform practical for photographers managing thousands of event images.
